Molecular Tripods

Abstract
Synthesis and characterization of molecular tripods. The possibility of using synthetic organic molecules as the extreme tips of SPM instruments is explored. Such a molecule must have a rigid structure and be able to attach to a large tip with a stable threepoint contact. In addition tripodal moleculecular groups are prospective as "anchors" for attachment of molecular entities to solid surfaces.
