Applications of single fluorescent nanodiamonds in biological cell imaging

Abstract

In this work, the photophysical properties of FNDs with an average size from 25 to 100 nm were characterized at the single particle level. It showed no sign of photobleaching even after 5 min of continuous excitation and no fluorescence intermittency within a time resolution of 1 ms. With both fixed and live HeLa cells we demonstrated that a combination of these properties ensures single-particle tracking and imaging of the FNDs in cellular environment.
