Synthesis and characterization of new complex organic photo-systems: single particle and ultrafast investigation with the help of advanced data analysis

Complex organic photo-systems such as nanoparticles and supramolecular systems have attracted increasing attention as new potential materials for optical and electronic devices and also photo-drug delivery and high resolution optical imaging. The synthesis, use and performance of these complex photo-systems are limited, mainly due to the fact that photodynamic parameters have not been fully explored yet, especially at ultrafast time scale. We will discuss here several photo-active systems (capsule, nanoparticles, polycrystalline powder…) based on ultrafast proton transfer, electron transfer, bond cleavage: fluorescent and photochromic nanoparticles based on perylene diimide and hexaarylbiimidazole molecules and self-assembled photochromic molecular capsule based on salicylideneaniline guest. We will show here how single particle and femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy with the help of advanced data analysis can provide rationalized description of the process investigated.
