SAXS, WAXS, Rietveld Refinement, and what they can do for our understanding of chalk

A workshop sponsored by the Nano-Chalk Venture, Nano-Science Center - open to all.

The Nano-Chalk team is an interdisciplinary group of physicists, chemists, molecular biologists, geologists, mineralogists and engineers.  The purpose of the workshop series is to educate ourselves in the background of the various disciplines and to develop a common language so we can communicate. Emphasis is placed on question/answer sessions and discussion.  ALL are welcome!

Programme
14:00 - 14:15  X-ray scattering, SAXS and WAXS: How the techniques work, advantages and limitations  Robert Feidenhans'l, Nano-Science Center, NBI for Physics, KU

14:20 - 14:35  Applications of SAXS and WAXS:  Looking at pore spaces and the interfaces that surround them  Jens Wenzell Andreasen, Risø

14:40 - 14:55  Watching reactions by X-ray scattering: Transient structures in Metal complexes  Martin Meedom Nielsen, Nano-Science Center, NBI for Physics and Dept. of Chemistry, KU

15:00 - 15:20  Coffee and discussion

15:20 - 15:35  The new X-ray diffractometer at the Geological Institute, Rietveld refinement, and why one uses it.  Tonci Balic-Zunic, Department of Geography and Geology, KU

15:40 - 15:55  First results of SAXS and WAXS on model calcite compounds and chalk  Iván Sánchez Pasarín, Nano-Chalk Group, Dept. of Chemistry, KU

16:00  Formal workshop ends but discussions continue for those who want to stay

The Information Workshop series is open to all.  Wishes for future workhops are welcome.
Nano-Chalk Workshops are held periodically, with announcements sent by email.  If you have received this announcement through a colleague and you want your name on the mailing list for future workshops, send a message to Elisabeth: eaf@nano.ku.dk.
