Nano-Science Center Seminar: Gemma Solomon

We invite you to join us at Nano-Science Seminar, held by Gemma C. Solomon, June 9th 15:00 at HCØ, Aud. 5. The talk will be about 'Better than nothing: the search for effective molecular insulators'.

Abstract:

'As electronics moves to the nano-scale, effective insulators and dielectric materials are as vital as any functional components to ensure the success of devices. While molecules are generally poor conductors, it is nonetheless challenging to design systems with extremely low conductance. In this talk, I will review efforts to suppress conductance with molecules, including proposals to use destructive quantum interference. Finally, I will show some of our recent results with a promising molecular component that turns out to be a better insulator than the space (vacuum) it occupies.'
