Led by Marité Cárdenas Gómez, who is an associate professor at the Department of Chemistry, KIKU, at the University of Copenhagen, with expertise in the physicochemical characterization of bionanostructures in the bulk and at surfaces. Trained as a Chemist, she has a broad education covering human physiology, biochemistry, food technology and biotechnology, as well as physical and surface chemistry (PhD from Physical Chemistry, Lund University, 2004). Currently, she focuses on the understanding of the key physicochemical properties of biomembranes for drug delivery questions. Her interest goes over the relation structure-composition-function of biomembranes in general.

The group hosts a variety of instruments among those a Horiba Uvisel spectroscopic ellipsometer and a quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (Q-sense). Within the Nanoscience Center, we can access many other techniques such a multimode Veeco AFM, a X-ray reflectometer, a dynamic light scattering instrument and several fluorescent spectrophotometers and microscopes. For detailed structural studies, we access large-scale neutron and X-ray facilities in Europe. The group is at the moment composed of 3 PhD students: Anna Åkesson, Maria Wadsäter and Tania Lind, and 1 bachelor student Elena Nielsen.
