Multifunctional Nanowires: From nanomachines to nanobarcodes

Nanoscience Seminar by Joseph Wang, University California San Diego, La Jolla, USA.

Abstract
The unique properties of nanowires offer excellent prospects for designing novel bioelectronic devices exhibiting novel functions. Such growing attention reflects the unique properties of nanowires, including the ability to generate multiple outer surfaces and their high aspect ratio. This presentation will illustrate some of these possibilities in connection to:

  • Nanowire-based machine-like operations - from delivery vehicles to ‘artificial-muscles'.
  • Stimuli-responsive multifunctional adaptive nanowires for activating on-demand bioelectronic devices.
  • Nanowire-barcodes for bioanalytical tagging and authenticity testing.
